Another One

Hello!

I guess it's time for another update...

Me:
So first, I only went to the gym once last week. Which was that Monday. It's very sad. BUT! This week I went again Monday, and Tuesday, AND today, so that's excellent! Let's see if I can keep it up. Would be nice... Not much else happened today. At work someone told me I could go home around 3:30 since it was a holiday tomorrow but I stuck around until 5ish anyway... guess I get that from my dad! Not so fun, but anyway...

Nothing too interesting really. We were going to go snowboarding tomorrow since I don't really do the whole thanksgiving thing, but I'm pretty beat and getting up at 5 to drive 3 hours and board all day and then come back... sounded a bit too intense. Hopefully I'll get up to it within the next few weeks.

Think we are making gnocci tomorrow, maybe with gorgonzola sauce! As my dad said to me earlier today, Giorno del Reingrazamento, which I had no idea what it is but turns out means Italian Thanksgiving. Though really it sounds more like something of getting fat again. I dunno...

Games:
Not much here. I ended up not getting NFS because there was no story, and though I know they are stupid, I really liked them! So since it's pretty much just online play I said screw it and bought AC Brotherhood instead, which is actually mostly NOT online play, unlike I thought. It's just continues the story, and it's pretty good (except some of the 100% stuff is a pain in the ass). So that's what I'm doing. Still haven't decided on cataclysm....

Books:
Nothing here, haven't gotten a chance to read much more. Claysie is almost done though so SOON!

Novel:
Ok, here I actually have news! That's right! I have a story now. It came to me while walking to work the other day, and everything just kind of fell into place. To be fair, I have a lot of fleshing out to do, but I think this is the one. I've decided not to post it here so I can actually have some people read it as a whole and see how they react. But I'll try to updated how it's going and such and that will hopefully actually keep me writing because otherwise you guys can just complain that I'm not doing anything with it.

Social Commentary:
Hey look it's a new one! This is where I pretend to know what the hell I'm talking about, which I certainly don't, so be forewarned!

The other day I heard they took a Beyonce commercial of the air in the UK because it was too "risqué". Now this surprises me. Maybe Britain was always quick to censor, but it got me thinking. I don't really think it's a problem that cultures change or that we forget some things. I think that we already keep a lot of old culture/tradition in our memory, or museums, or books, or other things. And if we forget some stuff, honestly, that's ok. That's natural and it's healthy to have change and that I think sometimes means forgetting things. I'm not saying we should forget everything or change everything or anything like that, but I think people go a bit overboard. BUT... what I think is a problem is how our cultures are merging. That's what the UK thing made me think of, sexual censorship. That's what the US does (same old tired argument that the US censors sex and Europe doesn't, but on the other hand the US has a lot of violence and Europe doesn't, bla bla bla, that's not what I'm getting at here). What I AM getting at is that the cultures are bleeding over, and I think we are moving towards a mega, global culture. And that I think is dangerous. I think unique cultures are important, and it's tremendously beneficial and helps us grow. I won't get into all the details, I'm sure everyone has their own opinions, but I I do think that's one of the biggest dangers we're facing in terms of a global society.

And I'm done.

For Real This Time

Hello to my non-existent followers!

For a while I've been trying to think about what to write about and blog about and make it interesting and something people will care about. But since no one will probably read this, I guess there's really no point. So instead, I'll just write whatever I think of; what I did during the day, interesting/amusing stories, random thoughts, game thoughts, etc... (is that the appropriate use of a semi-colon? I could never figure that out). I figured I'd use the blog for those people who always complain they don't know what I'm up to, they can use this (mostly family!). I'll head each section with a label so you can skip things you don't care about me... Enjoy!

Me:
So... not much going on. Finally joined a gym today, so we'll see how that goes. Kind of sad because it took me 4 months to join a gym that is as close to my apartment as is physically possible. I mean that. The only way for it to be any closer would be if it was IN my apartment. So I went and she asked me if I was new to SF, and I said, "Sort of. Been here for a few months so..." Then later she asked me for my address and after I gave it she just kind of laughed and said, "Really? Took you this long?" So the goal is to get up at like 6 AM tomorrow and go... yea...

Games:
In other news... two games of interest coming out this week! One is Need for Speed Hot Pursuit. This one kind of came out of nowhere, at least to my knowledge. A kind of remake of the old one, since that was by far the best one. Checked out a trailer or two, actually looks pretty bad-ass. I always liked the kind of ridiculous over-dramatic story line in them... Looks promising. The other game coming out this week is Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood. I'm a little hesitant about this one. I liked AC and AC2, but I think this one has more of a multi-player focus and I don't really have much interest of playing that one online... I dunno. Will have to wait and see what the opinions are. My sister got me a magazine subscription for my bday, so I'm going to try out Game Informer. Other than that... Force Unleashed II was decent, kind of fun but very short. Still playing Fallout 3... I'm very excited about Rockband 3, mostly because they are going to release a compatible actual stringed guitar. I think that's an awesome way to learn, and it'll allow for an easy combination of my two hobbies! Really interesting stuff if you think of this in terms of combining education and video games...

Books:
Still waiting on Claysie to read Wheel of Time 11 (Knife of dreams) so I can finally get to the new one! I'm now two behind, with 13 (Towers of Midnight) having just been released this month. But we got a month until the last one comes out. I think there are then two more prequels in the works somewhere.
The other book I'm reading is one my parents got me, Here's Looking at Euclid. I'm still pretty early but looks like it explains mathematics through other fields (for example, the part I'm on right now talks about how an indigenousness people in the Amazonian rain forest, who have basically no language for math (they only have numbers up to 5), think of things in terms of a logarithmic scale (that is, numbers are closer together as they increase) as opposed to our concept of equi-distant numbers. Not sure about the book yet, but certainly worth continuing reading.

Novel:
This is about the book I'm trying to write. I finished reading two guides to writing by Orson Scott Cards, one about characterization and one about writing fiction. There's some good stuff in there, but I'm having trouble picking an idea that i really like. I know I should just start writing to get SOMETHING out like Claysie always says, but it's tough. So maybe this blog will help just write stuff, and in the future I plan on writing about ideas in this section, what I'm thinking about. Maybe you can respond and let me know what you think about it...

Ok that's enough for today.
