For Real This Time

Hello to my non-existent followers!

For a while I've been trying to think about what to write about and blog about and make it interesting and something people will care about. But since no one will probably read this, I guess there's really no point. So instead, I'll just write whatever I think of; what I did during the day, interesting/amusing stories, random thoughts, game thoughts, etc... (is that the appropriate use of a semi-colon? I could never figure that out). I figured I'd use the blog for those people who always complain they don't know what I'm up to, they can use this (mostly family!). I'll head each section with a label so you can skip things you don't care about me... Enjoy!

Me:
So... not much going on. Finally joined a gym today, so we'll see how that goes. Kind of sad because it took me 4 months to join a gym that is as close to my apartment as is physically possible. I mean that. The only way for it to be any closer would be if it was IN my apartment. So I went and she asked me if I was new to SF, and I said, "Sort of. Been here for a few months so..." Then later she asked me for my address and after I gave it she just kind of laughed and said, "Really? Took you this long?" So the goal is to get up at like 6 AM tomorrow and go... yea...

Games:
In other news... two games of interest coming out this week! One is Need for Speed Hot Pursuit. This one kind of came out of nowhere, at least to my knowledge. A kind of remake of the old one, since that was by far the best one. Checked out a trailer or two, actually looks pretty bad-ass. I always liked the kind of ridiculous over-dramatic story line in them... Looks promising. The other game coming out this week is Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood. I'm a little hesitant about this one. I liked AC and AC2, but I think this one has more of a multi-player focus and I don't really have much interest of playing that one online... I dunno. Will have to wait and see what the opinions are. My sister got me a magazine subscription for my bday, so I'm going to try out Game Informer. Other than that... Force Unleashed II was decent, kind of fun but very short. Still playing Fallout 3... I'm very excited about Rockband 3, mostly because they are going to release a compatible actual stringed guitar. I think that's an awesome way to learn, and it'll allow for an easy combination of my two hobbies! Really interesting stuff if you think of this in terms of combining education and video games...

Books:
Still waiting on Claysie to read Wheel of Time 11 (Knife of dreams) so I can finally get to the new one! I'm now two behind, with 13 (Towers of Midnight) having just been released this month. But we got a month until the last one comes out. I think there are then two more prequels in the works somewhere.
The other book I'm reading is one my parents got me, Here's Looking at Euclid. I'm still pretty early but looks like it explains mathematics through other fields (for example, the part I'm on right now talks about how an indigenousness people in the Amazonian rain forest, who have basically no language for math (they only have numbers up to 5), think of things in terms of a logarithmic scale (that is, numbers are closer together as they increase) as opposed to our concept of equi-distant numbers. Not sure about the book yet, but certainly worth continuing reading.

Novel:
This is about the book I'm trying to write. I finished reading two guides to writing by Orson Scott Cards, one about characterization and one about writing fiction. There's some good stuff in there, but I'm having trouble picking an idea that i really like. I know I should just start writing to get SOMETHING out like Claysie always says, but it's tough. So maybe this blog will help just write stuff, and in the future I plan on writing about ideas in this section, what I'm thinking about. Maybe you can respond and let me know what you think about it...

Ok that's enough for today.

  1. The first volume was published in 2009 under the title The Gathering Storm.[2] The final two books are called Towers of Midnight (released November 2, 2010) and A Memory of Light (slated for a March 2012 release).

glad you're waiting for me, but we still have a year + for the final one.... we'll have to read them all again to remember in a year! haha

and you could just start writing your novel on here in installments (and with different ideas) and see which bits people like the best and then use those as the plot? just a thought...
I'm glad you're writing at all!
